Bobby’s Mini Donuts

Food truck owner, Anika Charles, lives in Atlanta Georgia and became a food truck owner when her uncle passed away.  Charles’s specialty is donuts as the name of her truck is Bobby’s Mini Donuts.

On September 14, 2021, Charles’s food truck business began after being passed on to her from her uncle.  As the business was originally located in Miami, Charles found a way to bring the business to Atlanta through running a food truck, and now she enjoys serving donuts to customers.

“My favorite thing about running a food truck is seeing people enjoy your food, making friends, making family and just having a great atmosphere with all of the truckers,” Charles said.

Being from Trinidad Tobago, Charles spent lots of time in the kitchen even at a young age as she helped her mother cook at the age of six.  This experience of hers helped her to take on the role of being a food truck owner.

“I always wanted to be in the kitchen, but I never really pursued cooking until now like baking and making donuts,” Charles said. “I kind of stepped away from it because I am into more athletics as I went to college for that, but now I am into baking and stuff.”

The name, Bobby’s Mini Donuts, comes from her uncle as his name is Bobby.  Charles kept the name as she wanted to continue his legacy and allow people to still have the donuts.

“I didn’t want to change his name because it is his legacy that I am taking on, so I wanted to make sure that people recognized the name Bobby and where it came from.  Even being in Atlanta, it has people from Florida who are like is this the same bobby shop and I am like yes it is the same bobby donut shop.  Having people recognize it coming from Miami into Atlanta, I just wanted to make sure his name was still going on and his legacy was still Bobby,” Charles said. “Now, people recognize me as Bobby so I am the second Bobby.”

With the time of year and the food truck being newer, Charles faces challenges as she has not yet gained a large fan base.

“We work hard and besides the business we do other things on the side so we can kind of balance everything, but the challenge was just not being out there for so long like other truckers and having that fan base.  Because we are new, we are now building that fan base and that is kind of challenging to us right now.

As Charles continues to run her food truck, she hopes to accomplish sharing what her uncle created as well as helping others.

“By showing Atlanta bobby's delicious donuts, but also just trying to build on what he left off and also once we get to that stage just trying to help other young entrepreneurs just grow.  I am just trying to learn from what I am experiencing right now and in the future just try to give back.
